3 REASONS TO LOVE MAGNOLIA PLANTATION

Confirming the venue and date for your wedding celebration is one of most satisfying parts of the planning process. It’s a huge check off your honey-do list. Especially in Charleston, where your dream venue sometimes dictates your wedding date…. Popular spots like the Cotton Dock at Boone Hall Plantation can book up over a year and a half in advance!

Fortunately, the ladies of Yoj know all of the holy city’s best venues! One of our personal favorites is Magnolia Plantation. Established in the late 1600s by Thomas and Ann Drayton, Magnolia Plantation has a rich history–spanning from the American Revolution to the Civil War. The plantation opened to the public in 1870, making it the oldest public garden in America.

With its romantic gardens and breathtaking views of the Ashley River, Magnolia Plantation has seen its fair share of weddings. And the resident peacocks have too!! Couples can choose one of three spaces: the Verandah, the Carriage House or the Conservatory. In our opinion, that’s three good reasons to love Magnolia Plantation!

The Verandah

Alyssa and Brian said “I do” by Magnolia Plantation’s famous Long White Bridge, then enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the Verandah before eating dinner and dancing the night away under a dreamy tent on the back lawn of the Plantation House. Surrounded by live oaks and manicured gardens, this historic Charleston home can make you feel a little like Scarlett O’Hara!

The Carriage House

The Carriage House dates back to 1840 and is one of our favorite places at Magnolia. With space for approximately 150 guests, the building overlooks the Ashley River. Cate and Tyler chose to marry here because the exposed beams and wrought iron chandeliers bring the outdoor gardens in for the party!

The Conservatory

If you’d really like to bring the outdoors in, the Conservatory will take your breath away. This intimate greenhouse served as the backdrop for Lauren and Jake’s wedding! After a secluded ceremony on the Schoolhouse Pond Lawn, they danced the night away near Magnolia Plantation’s beautiful red bridge.
