“Charleston is so special to us, and we wanted to share it with all our family and friends.
It’s where our story started, and it’s where we wanted our story as a married couple to begin.”
After reading Serena’s own words, you can easily understand why she and her beau Matthew chose to travel from their home state of Maryland to wed in the Holy City.
The pair have a history with Charleston, as for a period they dated long distance between MD and CHS. But it also holds a special place in their hearts for another reason…
Here’s the story, short-n-sweet style: While staying at Tides Folly Beach on a trip, Matthew woke Serena up early to watch the sunrise on the beach. And it was there that he asked her to be his wife. I’m picturing it right now and wishing I could have seen it all go down. I’m certain it must have been a captivating scene!
Both ceremony and reception were held at the Carriage House in Magnolia Plantation on a sunny Sunday afternoon. If you asked Serena and Matthew what their favorite part of the wedding was, they would tell you that it was the actual ceremony:
“Saying our vows to each other and making those promises was something we will never forget and something we didn’t take lightly. One of our very close family friends performed the ceremony, and it felt so meaningful and intimate to have all our closest friends and family with us. It was one of the happiest moments of our lives in one of the most beautiful settings in the world.”
Not only do they have great taste in location, but they have great taste in design, too! The blush and white color scheme gave the evening a soft, romantic theme, while leafy greenery and olive sprigs offered a touch of garden charm.
(I saw an opportunity and I took it and I have NO REGRETS.)
Frampton’s put together a gorgeous semi-cascading bouquet for Serena, as well as other arrangements that captured the organic theme. Likewise, DeClare‘s clean, elegant cake complimented the aesthetic of the day beautifully!
I love this idea: As a creative way to pay homage to their favorite city, the two used a local photographer’s shots of their favorite landmarks in Charleston to mark the tables and find escort cards. And each of the landmarks held a special significance to the couple. The pictures were displayed in the panels of rustic windows with the list of names and tables. You get the idea, right? The photos in the windows corresponded to the photos marking the tables. This is such a great way to mark tables if you’re wanting to think outside the box!
Another snippet into the minds of this sweet pair: their favorite part about Charleston? The food! Are you surprised?! I’m right there with ’em.
These two are a match made in heaven. Serena looked stunning with that dress and those long, dark, flowing locks! Her essence was angelic and her smile contagious. I vote Serena to be the next Disney princess.
Of course her Prince Charming Matthew looked incredibly sharp and handsome in his wedding day attire! He’s a married man ladies, calm yourselves.
Needless to say, this is only a small peek into the story of Serena & Matthew and their big celebration. Even so, it’s easy to tell that it was a lovely and unforgettable day for all, as evident from the shots Nathan at Richard Bell Photography captured! We are so honored that we were able to be a part of such a time in their lives. Thank you Serena & Matthew, and cheers from Yoj!
