On a Monday morning the phone rang, as it usually does, but this time it wasn't one of our Brides, it wasn't a venue, catering company, hotel or anything of that sort. It was a mysterious call from a man who said he needed a dinner planned for an undisclosed group of people that Saturday. That Saturday as in 5 days later? OK we thought to ourselves, the mystery of it all had us in deep. Planner Blythe got on it right away. She reached out to several local vendors, Mosaic, Event Works, Ooh Events, Squeeze and Branch to see what they could pull off on such a short notice.
The mysterious client gave us no hints as to what their vision was for the dinner so we completely took things into our own hands. We went through four venue searches and finally found what seemed to be most appropriate. Unfortunately we cannot disclose the exact location, however, we can say it was a historic museum with an extremely elegant dining room located on the peninsula.
We arrive at the venue early Saturday morning to begin setting up. As we are mixing floral decor and lighting candles we finally find out who we have planned this event for on such a short notice! That evening Mark Zuckerberg, John Tecklenburg, Chief of police, the former mayor of Charleston along with other Charleston leaders were all coming together to enjoy a wonderful seated dinner.
Zuckerberg visited Mother Emanuel AME Church that weekend as part of his effort to visit communities in all 50 states. He also went to visit the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville where he watched a dance performance and toured the campus. We were thrilled and honored for the opportunity to work for such influential people in our society and hope to do it again soon!
